Fast Park Holds 10th Annual Canned Food Drive
Company to match $1 for every pound donated, September 12 – October 6
The Fast Park family of offsite airport parking companies launches its 10th annual Canned Food Drive next week to kick off Hunger Action Awareness Month. Starting September 12 through October 6, local collections will take place in 13 markets across the United States, including Albuquerque, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Houston, Indianapolis, Memphis, Milwaukee, Orlando, Raleigh and Tucson. Customers can bring their canned goods during the collection period to any Fast Park location and drop them in the collection bins at the entrance to the facility.
Each year, Fast Park donates one dollar for every pound of nonperishable food donated by customers. Since the annual drive began in 2008, Fast Park has collected more than 60,000 pounds and donated more than $60,000 to support hungry families.
“We’re proud to say we’ve donated more than 415,000 meals to the communities where we live thanks to the generosity of our customers,” said Melanie Chavez, executive vice president of construction and branding. “We know these food banks are vital to each community and we are honored to make a bigger impact by helping to feed more local families.”
Most markets will donate the canned goods and matched monetary donations to its local Feeding America food bank -- a nationwide network of food banks and the leading domestic hunger-relief charity. The facility in Albuquerque will donate to St. Felix Pantry.
The facilities in Austin and Houston will collect food and cleaning and hygiene supplies for family emergency boxes as thousands of people begin recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey.
Feeding America provides food assistance to an estimated 46.5 million people annually.
- 42.2 million Americans live in food-insecure households.
- 54 percent of the households Feeding America serves report at least one employed person at some point in the past year.
- 26 percent of individuals who are considered food insecure live in households that earn incomes 185 percent above the poverty line, making them likely ineligible for most federal nutrition assistance programs.
